Vacation from Golf, or Golf Vacation?
- January 18, 2008
Sometimes, you just need a vacation from golf. The game can be frustrating and cruel, and over time your ego gets pretty beaten up. After six or seven months of golf, most of us are about ready for a break. It’s time for a vacation from golf.
But hold on a second. Let’s think reasonably about this. We love golf, right? Well let’s take a little time to think about all those people, and maybe you’re one of them, who don’t get to play as often as they’d like to. Maybe they work long hours and have to work weekends. Maybe they have a family of two working parents and need to look after the kids. Maybe they live in Alaska or North Korea (by the way, North Korean President Kim Jong-il holds the world record for the lowest 18 hole score with a 34
.)
Whatever may be the reason, for some people, playing golf is a vacation in itself. It’s a vacation that is long anticipated, heartily enjoyed (regardless of the scores being shot), and sorely missed when its over. Many times, when we travel on a vacation, we come back with an incredible appreciation for the comfort of our own homes. When it comes to golf, this seems only to be the case when we take a vacation from golf.
So, if you can count yourself lucky enough to be one of the fortunate golfers who can play frequently, remember that there are many out there who are not so fortunate. Maybe, the next time you are thinking about taking a vacation from golf, treat yourself to a golf vacation instead. Because even when you are having the worst golf day of your life, you’re still lucky enough to be playing golf.
